MedPeds Awarded Grant to Study Telemedicine

MedPeds was awarded a grant by the state of Maryland to study telemedicine’s impact on disease management and reducing hospitalizations and emergency room visits. The 18-month study began July 1, 2016 and will end December 31, 2017. Although telemedicine is available for all patients, in the study, half of our uncontrolled diabetic patients receive offered telemedicine visits in addition to regular office visits. Telemedicine is covered by most insurance companies (except Medicare). Medicare patients, however, may receive telemedicine as part of the Medicare Chronic Care Management (CCM) program or be offered the service at no charge.
