A Note About D.O.s:

M.D.s and D.O.s are both fully qualified physicians licensed to practice medicine, prescribe medications and perform surgery in all 50 states. D.O. stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Just like M.D.s who are Doctor of Medicine, D.O.s complete 4 years of medical school and are trained in a residency program specific for their specialty. Both MDs and DOs have to pass board examinations in order to be a licensed physician. However, in addition to learning traditional medicine, during medical school D.O.students have 500+ hours of training in hands-on approach to diagnose, assess and treat medical problems. There is a greater emphasis on a whole body approach to address the cause of an illness, rather than addressing the symptoms of an illness alone. DOs combine evidence based medicine, latest medical technology, and their hands-on approach to best serve their patients' needs.
